Religion vs. Government: the Charleston model
Religion should not dominate civil government. That's a big period! Or end.
Anytime any one religion runs civil government , people always get killed--no murdered in the name of that religion's god, which makes the killing legitimate.
An excellent example of people who knew that were the citizens of Charleston, South Carolina in the US.
As that town was formed, the founding fathers (and mothers) decided the best way for no one religion to dominate would be to invite in many religions. So, they did. They invited all variations of Christians, and that is why there is this very distinctive French Hugenot (sp) church there today. They invited in Jews, and, no doubt, they would have invited in Moselms, Buddist and any other religion if they'd known of it. Why? By having so many different religions, all had to be tolerant of the other. None dominated. Therefore, all could practice any religion he or she wanted and not have problems from the others.
That is the best way for religion.
So, everyone needs to adopt the Charleston model.
